The most common service used for this is called MoKash, which allows MTN Mobile Money users to save and borrow money directly from their phone.

In this guide, I’ll explain how to borrow money from MTN Mobile Money step-by-step, in the simplest way possible.

What Is MTN MoKash?
MoKash is a financial service available on MTN Mobile Money that allows customers to save money and also take small loans instantly using their phone.
The best part is that you don’t need collateral or paperwork like banks usually require.
Once approved, the money is sent directly to your Mobile Money account within minutes.

To qualify for an MTN Mobile Money loan:
Mtn simcard

You must have an active MTN SIM card
Your Mobile Money account must be registered
You should have been using Mobile Money regularly for some time
MTN normally calculates your loan limit based on how often you use Mobile Money and how well you repay previous loans.
This means if you are a regular Mobile Money user, your loan limit may increase over time.

Loan limits can range from about UGX 3,000 up to around UGX 1,000,000, depending on your usage and repayment history.

Most MoKash loans have:
About 9% facilitation fee
Repayment period of 30 days
For example:

If you borrow UGX 50,000, you may need to pay back roughly UGX 54,500 after 30 days.
If you fail to pay within the period, the loan may be extended with additional charges.
So always borrow responsibly.

Other MTN Mobile Money Loan Options
Apart from MoKash, MTN has introduced other loan services over the years.
Some of them include:

MoPesa
MoSente
XtraCash
MoMo Advance

These services allow users to borrow different amounts depending on eligibility.
For example:

MoMo Advance allows borrowing between about UGX 5,000 and UGX 500,000 depending on your usage.

However, MoKash remains the most widely used option among many Ugandans.
Tips Before Borrowing from Mobile Money
Mobile Money loans are convenient, but they should be used wisely.

Here are a few tips.

1. Borrow only what you need

Just because you qualify for a big loan doesn’t mean you should take it.

2. Repay on time
Late payments can reduce your loan limit in the future.

3. Use the loan for something useful
Some people borrow for business or emergencies instead of unnecessary spending.

4. Avoid borrowing repeatedly
Too many loans can become stressful if you fail to manage them well.

Final Thoughts
Mobile Money has completely changed how many Ugandans handle money.
Today, you can send money, pay bills, buy airtime, and even borrow cash directly from your phone.
If used responsibly, services like MoKash can help you handle small financial emergencies without going through complicated bank procedures.
But remember one thing — a loan is still a loan. Always borrow carefully and make sure you can repay on time.
That way, MTN Mobile Money can remain a helpful tool instead of becoming a financial burden.
