🚨 Tension Rises as EC Questions Bobi Wine’s Nomination Signatures Ahead of #UgVotes2026
The National Unity Platform (NUP) is facing fresh uncertainty after its Secretary General, David Rubongoya, revealed that Electoral Commission (EC) boss, Justice Simon Byabakama, has raised concerns over the party’s nomination process.
According to Rubongoya, the EC has informed them that the signatures NUP submitted in support of their presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, were “not sufficient.” This development sparks fears that Uganda’s biggest opposition leader could be locked out of the 2026 presidential race.
This news comes in sharp contrast to earlier communication, where Kyagulanyi was listed among 35 aspirants who successfully submitted nomination signatures from at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts. Speaking at the NUP headquarters in Kavule, Makerere, Bobi Wine had even announced plans to kick off post-nomination rallies at Katwe Playground and Natete, signaling confidence in his clearance.
Now, with the EC casting doubt on his nomination, political watchers say the situation could trigger heated debates about transparency, fairness, and the credibility of the electoral process.
For NUP supporters, the big question remains: Will Bobi Wine appear on the ballot in 2026—or will this be another political storm that tests Uganda’s democracy?
👉 What do you think—are these signature concerns a genuine technicality, or a political strategy to shake up the race?
