Saudah Madada Defies Odds: Goes Independent After NUP Ticket Denial
Ugandan politics never runs short of drama, and this time the spotlight is on Saudah Madada, a staunch National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter, who has boldly chosen to chart her own path.
After being denied the party ticket to contest for the Kampala Central Lord Councillor seat, Saudah shocked many by storming the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda to submit her nomination papers — but this time as an independent candidate.
“The People Wanted Me”
Saudah insists her decision wasn’t personal ambition, but rather a response to the cries of her voters. According to her, supporters mobilized and even helped her collect the required signatures, showing overwhelming faith in her leadership.
Still Loyal to NUP
Interestingly, despite breaking away to run independently, Saudah hasn’t cut ties with her party. She openly declared her unwavering support for NUP’s presidential flag bearer, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), making it clear that her move isn’t a betrayal but a continuation of the struggle under a different banner.
What This Means for NUP
Political analysts will be quick to point out that Saudah’s move could split the NUP vote in Kampala Central — a key battleground for the opposition. However, others see it as proof that the party had a mole with selfish ambition
The Bigger Picture
Uganda’s political scene has always been filled with twists and turns. Saudah’s boldness highlights two things:
Party politics doesn’t always silence ambition.
Grassroots voices can push candidates forward, even without official party backing.
As the 2025 elections edge closer, one thing is clear: the political arena is heating up, and independent candidates like Saudah are not afraid to shake the table.
